Both the roadster and dime lists have had discussions on tires lately so
when my December issue of CAR & DRIVER showed up today the first thing I
noticed was the headline across the top; "TESTED: Picking the best
performance tires." They used a BMW 325i for the test and Tire Rack brought
the tires. The test was with 225/45R-17 tires. Probably not a size the is
used by many roadsters or bluebirds. They rated them based on dry
performance, wet performance, price, and tread wear. Below are the results.

    #1 - Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
      2 - Continental ContiSportContact 2
      3 - Yokohama Advan Neova AD07
      4 - Michelin Pilot Sport PS2
      5 - Hankook Ventus R-52 Z212
6 - Dunlop SP Sport Maxx
      7 - Pirelli P Zero Rosso Asimmetrico
      8 - Toyo Proxes T1R
      9 - Bridgestone Potenza REO50A
    10 - BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KD
    11 - Kumho Ecsta MX

They used a weighted points system that is too hard to explain with my
poor typing skills, but the did weigh the dry performance double over wet
performance. If you are looking for tires, it would probably be worth the
cost of the magazine at the news stand to read the whole article.
And the issue also compares the new Vette vs Viper Coupe, and the Mazda
MX5 vs Pontiac Solstice. Gotta wonder why it took some body so long to come
up with a comparable car in the same price range as the Miata. And I'm
still wondering why Nissan doesn't have anything even close.

Happy reading,
