Congrats on the resto progress!  I think Harley Davidson did try to 
patent or trademark the sound but were unable to. You can't patent a 
stumbling idle, apparently. Just think, you bring your 1964 Dodge 
Dart into the shop running on two cylinders, the muffler dragging, 
and you're slapped with a trademark infringement suit by Harley .  ;-)
