John,

I'm looking for a potential new commuter car. We average about 500-600
miles/week on 2 different cars. We have a Toyota Prius (I know some
hate the looks, but with the amount that we drive it's pretty nice). I
was looking at the Impreza WRX model. These come in at about 25K. What
a kick in the pants. The turbo comes on smoothly and the engine seems
to spin up to 6+ K very easily. For novelty the hood scoop is even
functional, with the air going to an inter cooler for the turbo.

I think this is about the same size as the Forester.
