Seems that some folks do feel this way. I was not so sure, after all,
aircraft use magnesium wheels. I was concerned though, so about 5-6 years
ago I took a set of crusty magnesium Minilites (courtesy of Leisure suit
Terry) to an aircraft certification company near the San Antonio airport. I
wanted to have them checked for damage, cracks, etc as all four had
significant oxidation (they were bare - no coating). I spoke to the owner
of the place at length. He did not think that testing them was necessary.
I'm not an easy sell, due to my scientific post-doctorate background, but he
was a professional and I walked away satisfied that they were safe to use.
Fortunately these Cromo's are factory coated. They hold air just fine which
many magnesium wheels do not.
