Friends,

I'd like to remove the tumbler from inside an original (late-69) locking
gas-cap, in order to have the tumbler's pins reset to match my daily
driver's key. Does anyone have experience removing the tumbler? The
obvious maneuvers don't work. Nor did a old-style locksmith find the
solution.

Alternatively, as I have exactly one (original, Nissan) key for this
gas-cap lock, I'd be satisfied making duplicate keys from it -- any key
that works will do. In light of my well established absentmindedness, I am
reluctant to use the locking cap on my daily driver with only one key to
work the lock!

I believe that the appropriate key blanks are Curtis number DA18 or Taylor
number D80F.

Alas, there seems to be not one of these blanks left in all of Pittsburgh,
and the manufacturers no longer have stock to offer. Does anyone own (or
have a source of) usable blanks to sell, or trade for other Roadster stuff?

For reference, the gascap key also is the one that operates the doors,
trunk, and center console, and is different from the ignition key. I can
get duplicate ignition keys without difficulty. Taylor has active stock on
a blank for those, number X1.

Thanks.

Best,
Teddy
