  Paul,

Aluminum polishing is a piece of cake, but time consuming. Electric buffer,
buffing wheel and polishing compound for aluminum. I've found the "stick"
solid form works well. The compound comes in all different densities. You can
probably find out where to get it in your area from Plating and Polishing
shops. Clamp the valve cover down well while you're working on it. To do a
REALLY primo job, you could wet sand the aluminum to 600 grit sandpaper, then
start polishing to remove all surface imperfections. If you have a heavy duty
bench grinder, adding a buffing wheel and holding the cover in your hands is
the fastest and easiest way to do it. After you get it polished, Mother's
Polish works awesome to keep up the polish job and really make it shine.
  Good luck.
