aluminum or cast

I have finally finished the frame and suspension on the restoration so now
its time for the motor. My question is which one. I have two 1600's. One is
the original motor with the aluminum head and the other has a cast head. Is
one more desirable than the other for a minor rebuild? I am just looking to
clean it up and stop the leaks assuming that it is mechanically ok. The cast
head's block number is 00977 and the aluminum's number is 18027.
