You can take the manifold off w/o pulling the engine if you pull off the
carbs and everything else that's in the way up top, and then disconnect the
end from the exhaust line (may require cutting). Take pictures as you go,
and keep notes. Broken studs are easily replaced at any parts store (on a
1966 they are SAE)
Be sure to hook up the 2 or 3" lower front brace from the manifold to the
block when you put it back on, it should help the exhaust manifold not
vibrate itself a new hole. This is very often a missing part, but you can
make a new one out of a small piece of steel with holes for bolts on each end.
Also disconnect your battery when you do it or you are sure to short it out
at the starter.
BTW. I had the same problem and found it impossible to patch the hole -- had
to get another manifold.
