Meaning of Chapman's Lotus

I've read in several references that Colin Chapman was reluctant to
describe the motivation to name his company and racing team "Lotus".

Indeed, in one interview, he stated that he might disclose the reason 
someday, but not at that time.

Does anyone know if the time to do so ever arrived, and if so, did he 
ever  describe why he chose the name, "Lotus"?  I've wondered about this 
for years.
