"Lucas Outbids Valeo for Lake Center Industries
Outbidding Valeo S.A., the French car parts maker, Lucas
Industries PLC of Britain will pay $87 million to acquire Lake Center
Industries, a unit of Guy F. Atkinson Company. Valeo announced
the accord on Monday to pay $80 million in cash for the company
but canceled the acquisition beacuse of problems over the price and other cond
itions Atkinson wanted to change. Lake Center
Industries, which supplies electro-mechanical products to vehicle
makers in North America, has six factories in Minnesota and
Wisconsin and employs 1,380 workers"
