I'm not a wiz on MG's in general, but the radiator cap for
Big Healeys requires an extra deep "plunger" or whatever it's
called. The neck is a little bit taller than most American cars.
So, the cap might be in good shape, but it might not be reaching
down far enough inside the filler neck to seal properly. If it's
a replacement cap you might take a look at it and see if this is
the case.
