Steve, I'm making an assumption you have never owned an "E" before----
1. They are expensive to repair--unless you are a do it yourself--even
then, parts are costly
2. The 2+2 "isn't a convertible---its' value isn't the as high
3. Automatic trans-------I've never had one in a Jag so can't comment;
however in my opinion automatic trans don't belong in "sports cars".
The price sounds great to me, but only you can decide if it's worth 2 MG's.
I would have it checked closely for any bent or damaged or rusty frame
rails---these basically hold the car up, and everything hangs off them so
if they are not good forget it or be ready to spend $700-$800 a piece for
them. Check the picture frame for damage and rust also.
You will hear many comments from the not too well informed that you can't
keep the carbs in tune. I ran my first one (a 66 rdstr) for 5 years and
never had this problem. They (I think the 70 has) SU HD8 carbs which are
the same as the later Healeys (I have a 65 BJ8 Healey) and have not had a
problem with them. Depends on how well maintained and adjusted they are.
Because of my love of the "E", I am now at the 1/2 way point of a total
restoration of another 66 rdstr. I haven't let little things like $$ stop
me---it's an emotional thing!
So, if you just have to have it, the price seems OK. Let an "expert" look
at it, and check the rails.

The British Cars Mailing list, an intro for companies. 12/22/93
The british-cars electronic mailing list is a world wide
community of British car owners and enthusiasts. Discussion
covers just about anything related to british cars. It is free,
and based on "The Internet", a world wide interconnection of
thousands of computer networks. Access is also possible from
most commercial E-Mail systems, such as Compuserve, MCI, ATT,
Prodigy, etc.

Ask either to get all messages as they are sent, or for the
once a day digest of everything sent that day.
After the list administrator (a human) adds you, you will begin

Because all list postings go to hundreds of people, with a wide
range of interests and computing capabilities, we ask that you
try to follow these simple guidelines for companies on the
british-cars mailing list.
1) The main purpose of the British Cars Mailing list is to
discuss and share information about British cars, and related
people, events, parts sources, technical info, etc.
2) Participation and contribution of related businesses and
their employees in these discussions is quite welcome and
valued.
3) Beyond casual comments within ongoing discussions or
occasional mention external services, if a company wants to do
business on the net, they should find other means to do so.
4) Republishing or using postings from the list for commercial
purposes without permission of the author(s) may be a violation
of various copyrights, and is generally frowned upon. Most
authors are happy to provide permission to have specific
postings published as long as they are asked.

There are several ways a company can easily provide and get
valuable and useful services on the network, without adversely
impacting or affecting operation the British cars list. Some
can be done from any E-mail system, while more advanced
services require more advanced computer resources. Some examples:
-Send direct E-Mail to someone you think may be interested in
your product or service.
-Maintain your own electronic distribution list (one-way) for
mailings to interested parties. (Just like paper mail, only
faster, and interactive).
-Create your own e-mail discussion list, on your own, or hired
computer equipment,
-Offer electronic services, such as parts and pricing lists on
a file server; electronic ordering; or paid consulting via
private E-Mail.
-The list can also be an excellent source for a company to get
feedback about such things as parts quality, authenticity and
other technical issues.
-Access on-line file servers with archives of past discussions,
parts & technical information, graphics images, and more.

This file is posted to the list Lucas fashion- randomly.
The file servers are machines where various archives and articles of
interest are stored. You may get copies via "anonymous FTP", or by E-mail.
-----
A) FTP
If your machine has an internet connection, and runs the file transfer
program FTP, you've got what you need. Read your local manual/help on
using FTP.
1) Run FTP on your local machine, opening a connection to
triumph.cs.utah.edu (155.99.208.4)
2) Connect as user "anonymous", and use your name as the password.
3) Change to directory /pub/sol. (cd /pub/sol)
4) You may list the files using FTP's dir or ls commands to see files.
5) Set the file type to binary using the binary or image command if
you're going to get something other than plain text files.
(Like GIF's, or programs)
6) Use get or mget to one or multiple files.
7) Exit with the bye or quit command when done.

B) E-Mail server
Can't run FTP? If you can send and receive mail, you may also retreive
archives via an E-Mail server run by TJ Higgins. There are many more
seperate
articles in the misc directory of this server thanon hoosier.
To get instructions, send E-mail to:
Standard Internet Addressing: server@ingr.com
or
UUCP Addressing: ...!uunet!ingr!server
with /HELP in the body of the message. The server will then send you the
help file with further instructions. (To your From: or Reply-To: address).
The SOL files are in the drectory pub2/sol/misc, pub2/sol/pic, and
pub2/sol/digest.

C) WAIS (This service is currently un-available)
Triumph is running an experimental WAIS server. (triumph.cs.utah.edu,
155.99.208.4 port 210 Databases- sol, autocross, datsun). This is a
networked database index/search/retreive system. You can access this
if you have a WAIS client on your local machine.

D) WWW (This service is currently un-available)
There is an expermental WWW (World Wide Web) link to the anonymous FTP
archives on triumph.cs.utah.edu. You can get to this at:

Uploading files to the FTP server:
-Please use common compression programs when possible, or plain ASCII for
smaller files.
-Please upload *all* graphic images to the pub\sol\Images directory, not

-Try to keep file names short & descriptive -using 8.3 format,
(xxxxxxxx.yyy) for the benefit of all users.
