Spent a ve. cold weekend in the light drizzle/snow putting the motor back in.
It took around 3 hours of rattling, jacking, cursing and trapped fingers to
get it back in! I started conecting it back up and came across a few
problemos.
1) The exhaust/carb manifold: I only have 2 fat washers...shouldn't
there be five to hold the carb. and exhaust manifolds? Also what is the
sequence for gaskets...I have the big long gasket, but the head gasket set
include two oval gaskets which are sized so they only fit between the
carb. manifold and head...do the oval gaskets go ON TOP of the other gasket?
or are they spare??
2) The front end is up on stands, so I thought I would spin the wheels....
uh oh...they didn't spin freely at all. I took the wheels of and the rotors have
a thin layer of rust residue...not eaten away...but a dusty layer of aorange.
When I had the buyers checkl done, they said the brakes were good, so I assume
the rotors have rusted while its been sitting waiting for the engine.
Should I remove and clean...or will it get rubbed of after a few miles of
driving??

Subject: Companies on the list -a solution.
OK, I've been holding off until the furror subsided a bit. I
think I have a very simple solution to the "Companies on the
British cars list" issue, without resorting to any special
restrictions.
For those who haven't read it lately, an excerpt from the current
welcome.sol, the introduction to this group:
"The scope of this group is simple, discussion is open to any
subject involving british cars."
Casual postings of cars and parts for sale have been quite
welcome, as have been occasional business postings. But,
outright full blown business adds (Junkmail?) has always been
frowned on. The thing most us have wanted to avoid is weeding
through large or frequent postings from someone trying to make
money off us, but having very little to contribute.
No problem. Commercial entities can live quite happily on the
British Cars list, but we will all be better off if they make
other arrangements for business functions.

Propsoed comercial statement:
1) The main purpose of the British Cars Mailing list is to
discuss and share information about British cars, and related
people, events, parts sources, technical info, etc.
2) Participation and contribution of related businesses and
their employees in these discussions is quite welcome and
valued.
3) Beyond casual comments within ongoing discussions or
occasional mention external services, if a company wants to do
bussness on the net, they should find other means to do so.
4) Republishing or using postings from the list for commercial
purposes without permission of the author(s) may be a violation
of copyrights, and is a pretty slimy thing to do.

Simple as that.
There are several ways a company can easily provide valuable and
useful services on the network, without adversly impacting or
affecting the British cars list. Some can be done from any
E-mail system, while more advanced services reqiure more
advanced computer resources.Some examples:
-Send direct E-Mail to someone you think may be interested in
your product or service.
-Maintain your own electronic distribution list (one-way) for
mailings to interested parties. (Just like paper mail, only
faster, and interactive).
-Create your own e-mail discussion list, on your own or hired
computer equipment,
-Offer electronic services such as parts lists on a file
server, electronic ordering, or paid consulting via private
E-Mail.
I look forward to more participation and sevices by *anyone*
who can add to our hobby.
