I too experienced similar problems with my MGC. I also used the
shotgun method and replaced most of the ignition system, rebuilt the
carbs (more than once), changed fuel filters and fuel pumps (again, more
than once), blew out the fuel lines, and cleaned the fuel tank. All
with no sucess. the problem finally turned up to be a hole in the pickup
tube in the fuel tank. The fuel system starts sucking air (slowly at
first, then works up to big gulps). As long as I keep at least 1/4 tank
full, everything is fine. Just something to think about.
