Thanks for all you advise. It looks like it is the diods in the altenator.
At the moment I am a poor grad student working 25hrs a day on my thesis to
finish by March.....4 years of research to write up....anyone out there a good
statistitian, ie, how can I massage data to get round the problem of
pseudoreplication???
Anyway, I don't have time to fix it yet as my "car time" has been devoted to
changing the U joints, a rear brake cylinder, and rear brake shoes on my
Midget. So as a quick fix for the current leak on the B GT I just disconect
the battery earth strap every time I leave the car. When I first got it and
was messing around with changing the two 6V for one 12V I was saying how
stupid it was to put the batteries under the back seat. Now I know why they
did it. Of course they new there would be electrical problems so they thought
lets put the batteries under the back seat, that way when there are electrical
problems the driver can just leave the back seat and the battery cover off
so he/she won't have to go under the bonnet everytime they stop to disconect
the battery. It is so convinient....Thanks BL you are great!!
But this has created another problem. When I got shopping (which is not very
often since poor grad students with two LBC to feed don't eat very much. We
just go visit people (I call them friends) at dinner time and they feel obliged
to feed us), as i was saying, when I go shopping and have a bag full of food
in the back, as well as the other crap one must carry when ones electricals are
on the blink, and brake hard, the bag and food come crashing to the front of
the car where a gapping big hole awaits. This whole is of course where one of
the
6V batteries used to be.
So for my astute girlfriend has been quick enough to save the stuff before it
gets swallowed up. Before she became guardian of the battery hole she was not
my "astute" girlfriend but "a stupid" girlfiend (just kidding).
However, this morning she did allow a milliammeter to slip by her. Luckily I
had stopped so just hopped out and picked it up. I don't know why people
were giving me funny looks. It's perfectly obvious what I was doing???

Cheers DW

PS. I hope all my typos and word swaps give you all a good laugh. I'm really
not that dumb, only half that dumb. The problem is that I cannot type nor gain
access to the editor.
