The new 12V battery i put in the B GT went dead the other day and left me
stranded way out in the boonys at a house where I have been house sitting.
The owner of the house had about one screw driver and of course nothing to help
get the car going. All my friends have left this place for Christmas so I was
stuck. You cannot even see the neighbours house, and about one car every five
minutes drives along the road. The place where I live is about 6 miles away
down some really steep hills.

So anyway I left a big sign out by the raod which read: HELP. NEED JUMP START.
One hour later I got a jump start. Drove home and charged the battery.

Why did it go flat?? I took some readings as follows: With battery charged,
pos lead conected and neg lead disconected; I got a reading of 13 volts when
the volt meter was attached to the neg bat terminal and earth strap.
Nothing in the car was switched on. With meter conected as above, I got no
current reading (meter is in increments of 1 amps so its not very sensitive)
and a reading of about 10K ohms. This tells me that somewhere I have a
short????
I thought It should be 0volts and infinate resistance????

In addition, the fan belt was alittle loose and very old so I have changed that.
Have a good Christmas, with lots of Christmas spirit (but remember don't drive
after having too much Christmas spirit!!).

Cheers DW
