Even with 15W40 oil should be changed every 90 days as 'regular' motor oils
become acidic due to contamination, this causes the oil to eat away at the
bearings. for infrequently drivers the best choice is a full synthetic. full
synthetics can go a full year without becoming as acidic. a 5W30 is probably
the best for an engine with stock bearing clearances. heavier weight oils
are for engines with bigger clearances like full race engines that get
rebuilt on a regular basis. Using heavy oil is a waste of power as it takes
more HP to pump through the engine and usually less of it gets to where it
needs to be as it flows slower than thinner oil.
