        If I remember the explanation from chemistry right:

        Poly-mers (plastics) are made of many (poly) lengths
of organic compound chains (know as mers). The small short
chains are fairly volatile and evaporate from your new dash
quickly - otherwise know as "new car smell". Which is also
why old cars NEVER smell new again - no matter what they
tell you at the car wash.

        Nice to know that these short chain poly-vinyl-chloride
compounds are fairly toxic too. Have a nice day. :^)
