Oh............and since all the problems with speed seem to be in SS
cars, SS would be the class I would suggest for the experiment.

Ben has voiced a misconception that seems to be prevalent in this
discussion. To paraphrase, "If we slow down the fast Stock cars, we have
fixed the problem."

I disagree. We have taken the rule to mean that the fastest stock class cars
should be no faster then xxx mph. But the spirit of the rule is to keep
speeds reasonable for ALL cars in ALL classes. Any scheme that lowers stock
speeds only is not going to fix the problem - which is SPEEDS ARE TOO FAST
FOR THE SAFETY MARGINS. Allowing a car to go 80mph means that we need to
provide more than 75ft to spectator areas and more than 25ft to obstacles.
If speeds are too high the buffer zone that our distance minimums are
designed to create becomes ineffective. As Scotty says, "you canna change
the laws of physics cap'n." Any car, regardless of class can get out of
control, when it does, our minimum buffer zones should protect the crowd IF
that car is going within the recommended speeds.
