You are absolutely correct here.

But here, you are incorrect.  The reaction time always counted, but we
didn't know what our reaction time was.  

As for the challenge being the "focus" I also disagree.  Lets look at a
really tough class like A Stock for, for instance.  In my opinion these
guys (and gals, too, in some cases) probably had one of the toughest
classes last year.  The competition was so tough that rarely did they do
well in the challenges probably as a result of the dialin being fairly very
low.

I don't want to pick on any paricular class, so let just say "I stock" was
fairly weak at an event.  Maybe as the result of only having 3 cars and
getting Yugo Stock bumped in.  There is one driver who is consistently
better than everyone else.  This driver sandbags and then drives hard in
the challenge.  What does this mean?  In my opinion...nothing.  

Basically, in the challenge, the more competitive classes are penalized.
If I drive in a competitive class, the class win is more meaninful to me.
