I attended a GM training class Tuesday on Electronic Service
Information (ESI). The instructor said some things that might be of
          interest.

The dealers will NOT receive automatic shipment of shop manuals for
2000 vehicles. All the service info is on ESI CDs. If a dealer
wants paper, the cost (to the dealer) will probably go up to about
$100 per book. A C/K truck, for example, now is a 4-book set and
would cost about $400. The 5-CD set would be more cost-efficient
for the dealer at about $500, but covers all GM vehicles (Chev-
Pont-Buick-Olds-Cad-GMC etc.) and works with Windows95.

ESI is expected to grow to a 12-CD set. Some of the dealers are
running out of room on their servers with the 5-CD set, so the info
will probably be on the internet in the future so the dealers can
          access GM's server directly.
