        James:

You say it has two vent pipes - are you referring to the fuel
outlet (on the bottom) and the vapor vent (on the top) as the two vents?
Or are you saying that there are two vent pipes on the tank in addition
to the fuel outlet on the bottom? Not to be condescending, but are you
getting the opening for the level sender confused with a "vent"?
In either case, the fuel tank sounds completely usable. Just cap
off the extra vent. It will be completely concealed so there is not
concerns about incorrect appearance. If your current one is rusted out,
then this sounds like a very reasonable repair.
For the later cars (72-76) there should be the outlet on the
bottom, and a vent pipe on the driver side at the top of the tank (and
of course, the opening for the level sender on the top passenger side).
Once it is installed, there should be a fuel trap (slightly larger than
a "D" battery) attached to the vent pipe, and from the trap there should
be a hose running under the car which ends up at the carbon canister
where it attaches to one of the small nipples.
If it really is the wrong tank, and you just can't stand the
thought of having it in your car, try giving British Auto Works a call
or an email (www.britishautoworks.com). They will have used ones, so
tell them that you are very fussy and want an excellent CORRECT tank for
your car. They will refurbish it for you if you like, or just send it to
you and you can slosh it, paint it, etc. Either way you will find them
to be very reasonably priced. NFI, just a satisfied customer.

        Cheers,

        Vance

Subject: [6pack] Gas tank: what type per year?...anyone need a
refurbished tank?

Hello.

well, i drove up to Carlisle PA last weekend to get a refurbished gas
tank,
sadly it has TWO vent pipes and my 1976 tr6 only has one. is the tank i
bought
for a 1975 model? i was told it was correct and for the late model.
sadly, it
isn't. now my car has to sit out yet another week of british car week
for repairs. always something - huh? ;-)

well, given that - anyone have a lead on a 76 tr6 gas tank in EXCELLENT
condition... i may try to have mine repaired...it is rusting inside at
the bottom. still
solid from what i can tell...

also, i may have to sell the refurbished tank. anyone need one in the
MD/DC
area? at least it would save shipping costs to return it or sell it.

thanks,

james
