Engine question

Hi guys,
 
New at this list but member of 6 pack.  Rebuilding a 72 TR-6 that had  lost a 
thrust washer and was burning oil when I bought it. 
 
Wanted to get some opinions / experiences with using spring or lock washers  
versus thread lock liquid on big end bolts.  Haynes and Bentley don't use  
them but Williams recommends new ones.  Does anybody have experience with  
this?  
is there any special care or process that is recommended when  putting these 
back together besides what is in the books?
