        Mitch:

Pretty common failure mode. The rubber diaphragm failed, and the
fuel from your tank drains into the crankcase. A rebuild kit for the
pump is cheap, and it is an easy job.
This happened to a buddy's 66 Corvette. He didn't figure out
what was wrong, but some times it would backfire loudly when starting.
One day it backfired so loud it blew the aluminum valve covers right off
the motor. The pump had been leaking fuel into the crankcase, and the
fumes would ignite on startup. It pressurized the interior of the motor
so high that the flanges on his cast valve covers fractured and the
covers blew off the motor. He finally decided he needed to do something
about it (doh!) and that's when he figured out his pump was bad.

        Cheers,

        Vance

Quick question.
The TR sat a week or so, fired it up ran fine. Glance at the gauge, 20
lbs oil pressure. Normally has 80 cold, sounded fine but shut her down.
Thought about it awhile then checked the oil level, about 2 inches high
on the dipstick. It's fuel. Anyone ever had a fuel pump go bad and dump
fuel into the crankcase? A friend and i are pretty sure we've heard of
this. The car was running just fine and not loading up when i ran it.
