This could be off base, but dosent the bypass valve act something like that
if it's floating?

Subject: Dangerous accelerator

Listers,
During a couple of lenghty drives in my 6 at a steady 65mph, I took my
foot of the pedal and not only did it not move, it kept accelerating. It
took a good jerk on the petal with my foot to release it back to normal.

When I came to a stop and proceeded to accelerate, my linkage seemed to
have a mind of its own and immediately took over and accelerated without
my foot on the petal. What do you think is going on? I believe I read
somewhere that our 6's has a history of this and for that, and other
reasons, has been classified as one of car history's "greatest lemons".
No offense, please. I need to get this dangerous problem resolved asap.
Any help out there?
