It was Castrol ... although certainly lots of people use it with no problem. I would suggest that straight 40 weight is not the best for California's climate anyway, 20W50 is better as it will stay

No, no consensus. Personally I like Valvoline oils ... I use their pure synthetic 20W50 in all my motors. However, lots of people use Castrol and have no troubles with it. Ken is definitely a danger
