- Hi Richard, What do you mean the tranny was only on loosely? I believe the starter bolts to the bell housing which is part of the trans which if it's "loose" would cause the starter to miss the flywh

- That's right, although it's worth noting that the aftermarket gear reduction starters always have the pinion move away from the starter housing, even for the later style ring gear. I believe this is
