Hi everyone, Some exhuast queries before I fit my (Bell) stainless steel exhaust: 1) What does "assembly" paste do? Is it worth using? 2) I want to wrap the 4-2-1 manifold with exhaust wrap to improv

One large downside to exhaust wraps. They retain heat and moisture in the header and lead to premature deterioration of the header metal. I would never use them unless there was no alternative. Joe /

Joe, true about the heat and moisture. Since I live in what in classified as high desert I don't really care so much about moisture and rust anymore. But I would agree James lives in a damper climate

Warning: If you assemble clean stainless steel nuts and bolts and they get red hot (like exhaust headers do), they will essentially weld themselves together, and you will wreck them trying to unscrew

The header is stainless steel - "non-magnetic" allegedly. So it should be the good stuff. The alternative is ceramic coating - however I can't find a place near me that does this yet. I have read ab

Most outfits that do powder coating also do ceramic coating. It provides an attractive finish, is an excellent heat barrier and purportedly increases the velocity of exhaust gases. It isn't all that

I used the HPC Coatings ceramic coating on my stock MK2 header, and my son's. The under bonnet temps dropped dramatically. The corrosion has been non existent, the increase in power, well, who can t

James mentions changing the exhaust to headers: I think you will have to change the carb needles and the springs also. I have a Triumphtune header and sport exhaust system and K&Ns on HS2 carbs. (My

I have already changed my springs to stiffer ones - and the needles are one "step" up from the standard. I don't have the TT book to hand - it would be useful if you could tell me what they suggest.

Bill, I would expect that it would exacerbate the cracking problem. This is because the additional heat that is kept in the header pipe makes the metal properties change. In mild steel headers, they

Metallurgy 101 I would highly recommend AGAINST wrapping mild steel headers on a street car. Because the heat is kept in, the working temperature of the header is raised significantly. At this eleva
