Any suggestions on the easiest, quickest and least expensive way to swap out the gears in my stock '66 differential to reduce the ratio and make the rear end faster in top gear? First gear seems a b

I'm assuming by faster you mean less revs at the same road speed. Stock '66 is 3.9:1 Solex 2000s are 3.7:1. That is a difference of close to 5% See if you can find either a complete centre or at lea

Actually, all 2000's were 3.7:1, not just the Solex cars. When I was at Mike Young's place a few months ago, he had swapped in a specific Nissan Maxima rear end which I believe was geared a bit lower

What if one were to put a 3.9 diff in a Solex car? What is the effect? Faster acceleration, less topend? Is it a noticeable difference in a Solex car? Thanks, john Brasfield

The 3.9 will give faster acceleration at the expense of higher cruising rpms and lower top speed. The Solex cam and carbs like to work at higher rpms and the 3.9 gearing compliments them well. The 16

A stock Solex car doesn't have quite the bottom-end response that an SU car does, so it won't mind a little help. The hp and torque curves of the Solex and SU cross at 4000 rpm. However, an SU car wi

When I ran my 67.5 Solex on the street I used a NISMO LSD with a 4.38 ratio and thought it was great. Great acceleration and still not too busy at the top end. Even later when I used a 4.62 ratio wit

speedometer error I suspect that I have a 4:38 differential in my SU 2L. When I got the car running I had not driven a Datsun 2000 for about 29 years. Even with that time span I noticed the differen

Ought to be a simple way to figure your ratio out. Certainly one short of marking the driveshaft and tire, then crawling under the car on a creeper, hanging on and counting the number of driveshaft

Yes, the hp and torque curves for a given engine cross at 5250 (actually hp = ft/lb of torque at 5250 rpm). What I was referring to was the point at which the SU hp curve crosses the Solex hp curve (
