The 3.9 will give faster acceleration at the expense of higher cruising rpms
and lower top speed. The Solex cam and carbs like to work at higher rpms and
the 3.9 gearing compliments them well. The 1600 came with a 3.9 so the motor
will not be turning any more rpms at any given speed than the 1600 would be
turning. The overdrive tranny will actually lower the rpms at cruising speed
relative to the 1600 four speed. You will definately notice the change from
the 3.7.

Subject: Re: Differential help
What if one were to put a 3.9 diff in a Solex car? What is the effect? Faster
acceleration, less topend? Is it a noticeable difference in a Solex car?
Thanks,
