- Hmm. That's a fascinating description of fixing the beasty - I've never gotten beyond step 0, which is "twist off old valve flush with head while trying to remove". You can block the thing off, too -

- Get some of the 'Teflon' pipe dope (paste, not tape) at the local hardware store and use it to coat the threads of your heater valve. That should allow you to turn it tight, and then go another 1/2
