Yes, the clip is meant to snap over both ends of the "chrome," which is actually plastic. Either 1) your plastic chrome strip is old and has shrunk or 2) it's fairly new and was somehow cut too short

That'll take care of the shrinkage, all right! Trouble is after being on the roof for 6 months it will be so brittle that it will break while trying to bend around the corners. You just can't win!!!

See if you can find someone who has recently replaced their chrome strip -- and has saved the old one.....cut a piece to fit the gap and insert it. This will last several months and then you'll have
