George, on the TR4 that's not the problem. The water pump pulley is up top and poses no problem. The fan extension has the crankshaft pulley attached at the rear. That's the problem. The belt is too

George, don't know about the TR3 but I have spoken to other TR4 owners and they have had the same experience with getting a proper fan belt between the crankshaft extension and the steering cross pie

For what its worth on my TR4 the fan belt slips between the crank extension and the steering rack with 1/4" to spare. My car uses the round engine mounts which is the original style for the car. Does

Brad, sounds as if someone has put oversize mounts in it. If everything else is Ok - i.e. if the hood closes without hitting the engine and the pullys are lined up - you are fine. Cheers. Art

After doing some further research on this I've found a 1/4" difference in the replacement mounts that I got from TRF and the mounts currently on the car. TRF's is 1 1/4" tall and the ones in the car

them. Brad, a 1/2 inch would probably make the difference. As I said, if one has the engine out and/or is replacing the mounts then installing a larger rubber buffer or a washer might be a good idea.

Also, don't forget that Brad has an early TR4; could easily have originally (or subsequently) fitted with a hand crank. There was a thread a while back about engines not lining up with the crank- the

Its 1/4". And it definitely made the difference. Thats just about the amount of clearance I have for the belt. Fortunately I will be pulling the engine off the frame anyway so I'll be using a washer

Mine is going to be fitted with a hand crank. I've done a test with the radiator installed and the valance installed and there doesn't appear to be a problem with alignment for the crank handle. But
