Shoulds be no problem. I have a '77 engine in my '70, for now, with a canadian '68 waiting for rebuild on my floor. My '77 engine came out of another '70, so I didn't do the swap of the brackets, but

I would agree with the timing or mixture assessment. I use a valve gap tool to set the point gap. However your question makes me wonder how you are setting the gap in the first place, as the surfaces

Because it is quite easy to change the cam without doing the bearings, you don't even need to pull the engine. The same cannot be said of replacing the bearings as well. To quote the Haynes manual: 1
