Start by hooking up one of those remoste starter switches across the solenoind and see if it starts. If it does, the problem is the solenoid.

For the roadster, yes. The Z-car race and rally transmissions used a direct-drive 5th gear.

Let me rephrase that: the 5th gear ratio is 1:1 in the Z-car trannys. Calling that "direct drive" is not technically correct, but is often used as a euphemism for a 1:1 ratio.

Personally, I wouldn't use vinyl tubing. If that breaks, you've got hot oil spraying all over the place. The only way I'd do a mechanical oil pressure gauge would be with braided stainless line.
