True story that happened to my friend Mark School of Appleton,
Wisconsin:
Mark restored one of the very few remaining Formula Saabs (you know,
like a Formula Vee but with a ring-ding-ding motor). Taking it through
Tech for the first time, the inspector asked him where the catch tank
was. Mark told him it was a two stroke, and didn't have a sump, and
couldn't have a catch tank, but the inspector insisted that it had to
have a catch tank.
Mark found an empty beer can, tie-wrapped it to the chassis, put a piece
of fuel line into it from somewhere on the engine, and passed
inspection.
