I have heard the sugestion that once you reach the point of no return, you
should apply full lock (not opposite lock). The net result is a 360 degree
spin ON THE TARMAC. Keep your feet off everything, except the clutch.
Surely applying the brakes and locking up must send you off into the
tyres?

This technique also avoids the danger of what the motor cyclists call
highsiding, when the sldie grips, if you still have opposite lock on you
are aiming directly at the armco on the outside of the corner.

I recommended this to a novice friend when we were both testing MGBGT's
locally. He applied my advice when spinning, shame I was only a few feet
behind him at the time. I ended up on the grass but no damage was done to
either car.
