IMO, YES!
For paint protection, I might be tempted to wrap the whole thing in bubble
wrap during the process. Probably best to leave the manifolds off, too.
You need some way to tilt the engine/trans during the process. I have been
known to "make do" with just a length of chain through the hook on the
hoist, and a big tapered drift to lever the chain through the hook as needed
(and lock it in place). But I used something similar to this

last time, and it was somewhat easier that way. Just don't forget that the
crank needs to go on the end away from the hoist <G>
