I just purchased (from the widow of the original owner) a 1968 GT6 MK
I to add to my collection. It's been sitting in her garage untouched
for a couple of years, and there are a few things I'd like to run by
the group.

  1. The front of the car sits SUBSTANTIALLY higher than the back- is
this right? If not, is the front too high, or is the rear too low? What
may cause this?

Not sure, but I suspect it could be a weak rear spring, or a bushing
problem, or any number of other oddball possibilities. Have you rolled
it around, or could it be that it's just sitting high from having been
jacked up in front and then let down again without rolling, and the car
simply hasn't "settled out"?

  2. The shifter is as loose as any I've ever used. When in gear, you
can move it several inches both horizontally and vertically. It can be
lifted as well (I don't know how much because I was afraid that I would
pull it right out and then not be able to put it back. Any idea what
this is?

All you need to know is p/n 519770 (or Moss p/n 848-965, although their
price seems significantly higher than anyone else). This bushing or
"anti-rattle" kit is all you need 99% of the time, and it runs around
$30-35 depending on vendor (plus shipping). It should take no more than
15-30 minutes to install in the gearshift extension, including R&R of
the extension but NOT including stripping out and replacing the
interior bits to get to it.

Other than that it seems to be a solid, original, rust free car.

Great! Might be quite a find.

*Mrs Irrelevant: Oh, is it a jet?
*Man: Well, no ... It's not so much of a jet, it's more your, er,
Triumph Herald engine with wings.
