Jim,
I've always removed the top cover before pulling a gearbox, and it's the last
thing to go back on when putting the gearbox back in. I find the cover and
especially the shift lever just gets in the way. You have to rock the cover
from side to side a bit to get the selector fork free, but it should pop out.
I just replaced this bushing on my Spit6 without pulling the gearbox. I've
also removed only the top cover to replace the backup light switch.
I don't offer the bushings for sale. I just happened to have some bushing
stock here that take to work and drill out and turn on a lathe. The original
bushing had an inner and outer race with a type of nylon, I believe, between
them. Of course over time the nylon just crumbles. Delrin may be a good
choice for replacement too.

Hmm, can you pull the top cover without taking the gearbox out of the
car? Sure would make things easy if you could! Do you offer these
bushings to other people?
