It is, BTW, possible to use the early top cover casting with the dipstick hole
on the later transmissions. The forks & shift rods will have to be changed for
a 4-synchro box, but the cover itself will work.

I'd say it makes hanging the funnel irrelevant. Just jam the funnel in the
hole. Or if you've got a steady hand, just pour the oil into the hole.
