Take the fuel pump apart and move the cam arm and just look at how much it
seals and how much open space you have, the slit opening is about 2 inches
in length, now if you want to call that a seal so be it, why did the factory
cease installing this "seal" on the new pumps years ago, and none of the
rebuild kits has included them in the rebuild kits for sometime, I have
about 6 of the "NOS" A/C rebuild kits from the 60/70's none of these kits
have this so called seal, as Randall said, if the diaphram fails gas will
eneter the oil pan, but that has 100% nothing to do with that part, gas
would enter the oil pan on any pump with a 2" clear opening around the cam
arm. "FT"
