That's probably where my gague would reside as well at that speed/air
temperature combination.  I don't typically drive my TR4 at 70 mph (I
usually stay off the freeway and take secondary roads).  As I mentioned, my
indicated temperature is typically somewhere near the upper range of the
middle markings found on the metric gauges.

I'm certainly no expert (and someone please feel free to correct me if I'm
wrong), but I'd guess that the flat glass gauge you have is not original.
Is your gauge electrically operated or activated by a capillary?
