Hi David
I don't know whether heating will help bend your material or not, what I do
know is that it is very difficult to see when aluminium is hot and melted
comes right along and creates a blob about
[ ] this long after! ;-)
To tell when you have the right temperature with ally have a match stick (or
similar) to hand and keep wiping the end on the metal, when the temperature
is right the match will leave a mark like a crayon!
Some Alloys will anneal with heating and quenching in cold water, you might
try this, Note some will harden from the same treatment!
Good Luck.

Graham.
