Evening all,
As some of you may recall, I had the dizzy in the TR3a rebuilt and ever
since then I have been trying to "tune" the running to the "sweet spot"
where everything just runs perfectly. So one the way to work and on the
return home I pull over and make a minor adjustment to either the idle
setting or the mixture. On Monday, I made a small change to the mixture and
starting driving again.
Not long down the road, the engine started to run rough and nursed her home
( 10 minutes ). After all of the tweaking I was not sure where the settings
were. After a couple of days of rain and other commitments I finally got
back to looking into the issue tonight. First thought was to reset the
mixture and when I put the mixture nuts all the way to the top I found the
front carb to be 4 "flats" (2/3 full turn) and the rear carb 13 "flats" (2
1/6 full turns). Talk about being out of balance! After resetting the
mixture to 9 flats and starting the engine, she ran very smoothly. Of
course a trip down the road will be the real test but doing the button test
indicated a good mixture.
Because the TR was not in tip top driving condition, I took the truck this
morning to work. On the way home it wouldn't shift higher than second gear.
Hmmm, this was confusing and I pulled over with the engine still running I
checked the transmission level, it was good. Drove a little longer and
still no change. Had a stupid thought of the "If Microsoft Built Cars"
(http://www.jokesandhumor.com/jokes/163.html) joke. So, with nothing to
lose I pulled over switched off the truck and started it again, yes I
rebooted my truck! Now it shifts fine into all gears.
Some may remember, I asked about a bracket to mount an electric brake switch
on the TR. Tonight I finished taking measurements and making a cardboard
mockup. My current plan is to transfer that to some aluminum stock ( 1/16"
x 1" x 36" ) that I have. I want to heat up the AL to make bending easier
without melting, what would be better a propane torch, a micro torch or
something else? I am making diagrams if anyone wants the plans. Also, will
JB Weld or adhesive hold together aluminum? There will no stress on the
bracket. Will "roughing" the contact surfaces help?
