I'm sure this is what Bill meant, but JIC ... the spring inside the MC can
break even with the pedal return spring in place.  However, the pedal return
spring should be sufficient to pull the pedal up from about 1/2 way down.

Not sure about the TR4A configuration offhand, but on the TR2-3, there is a
pedal pivot rod inside the car that is supposed to be lubricated
occasionally ... it's frequently overlooked and can develop rust & bind.
