Really? Since when, I wonder? It's been years since I looked at a
driver's manual but back in the old days I used to study them
carefully and I don't remember anything like that. (Maybe that's a
comment on my memory, but, um, what were we talking about?)
I agree with Randall though about its value. Way back in 1971 when I
bought my first Fiat I realized that people didn't seem to notice my
presence as readily as they would when I was driving my folks' big
wagons. After two weeks of being cut off by at least one unobservant
driver every morning on the I95 commute I started using my "parking
lights". Boom, the problem disappeared!
On the other hand, I dislike running with headlights routinely during
the day. (It means you can't flash them at other Triumph drivers!)
The concept of a car which automatically turns on the headlights with
the ignition is yet one more symptom of the disinvolvement of today's
drivers: If you're too distracted to turn on your lights by
yourself, not to mention know when you need them, then you should
probably leave your cell phone at home!

Ah, you're one of those guys! Well, at least you use them for one of
their intended purposes, driving in the rain. Gee, maybe if I traded
in my little cars for an SUV with a seating position two feet higher,
they wouldn't be such a problem.
Just my $.007.
