I don't see how this hole can change shape and pop out a c-clip. For one
thing, there's a hardened steel wrist pin inserted into the hole which
would keep it from deforming in shape
For another thing, the c-clip can often rotate by itself anyway.
I've never done this on any of the various types of engines I've
rebuilt. Never had a problem either. Ask him where he heard it. If it's
anecdotal, it's probably just some hairbrained idea someone had. I've
heard lots of them.
