That's simply untrue.
Standard -Triumph offered an off-the-shelf twin carburettor conversion from the 
contemporary Spitfire. In fact, the full Spitfire engine was available, 
together with a Vitesse dashboard with revcounter and 4.55:1 diff if wanted. 
These latter mods were very much special order, but the TC kit is listed in all 
of the 1200 factory parts lists and seems to have been quite popular.
