The transmission tunnel will have to come out.  The brass plate with the
part number and serial number is near the top of the main OD housing, but
slightly off to one side so it can be read without removing the shift
extension.

Note that it's possible to upgrade the internals to later specification (to
some extent), so finding an early part number on the plate is no guarantee
of what's inside.

Also, if you're looking at the Moss catalog, it shows a leading '6' in the
OD part number.  I'm not certain what it means (factory recondition,
perhaps), but not all units have the '6'.

While we're on the A-type OD topic, does anyone know the correct free
lengths for the direct drive springs ?  I know there are supposed to be 4
long ones and 4 short ones, but I can't tell the difference !  (and the
spring sets are backordered at TRF.)
